Webinar Series Post 3

Webinar Series Post 3

I went to Cuba for vacation these holidays…and besides the wonderful weather, decapitated post-colonial buildings, and friendly yet always hustling locals what amazes me the most is their ability to move in a coordinated manner and a sense of rhythm that I had to train many years to achieve. A colleague of mine studied informal dance pedagogy in Cuba and demonstrated their methods of somewhat chaotic yet very organized way to teach music and dance through experience. I will bring her research here at some point but here I wanted this to be a prelude to a video of a conversation I had this summer during my Webinar Series with the wonderful Franc Muhel.

In this webinar, we discuss Afro Caribbean Dance including Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Kizumba, as well as several Caribbean folk dance forms. Guest speaker- Franck Muhel was a principal dancer with Eddie Torres, the Mambo King, and has performed and choreographed with internationally acclaimed orchestras including: Eddie Torres Mambo Kings Orchestra, Mitch Frohman Latin Jazz Quartet, Mambo Legends, Eddie Montalvo Band, Bobby Sanabria, and more. Franck was in the film “In The Heights” and currently teaches Afro-Caribbean dance at Ballet des Amériques. https://www.facebook.com/franck.muhel https://www.instagram.com/franckmuhel
