  • David makes the Dance Studies class both fun and educating. He always comes in with a positive attitude and is willing to take any questions for the improvement and understanding of the students. The material is never dry- he always adds personal stories and shares his personal experiences in the dance world to engage us more into the class and to better understand and relate to the material. • I worked with David as a fellow academic colleague in the dance program at York. We collaborated on a project exploring how the different perspectives of contemporary dance choreography between a ballroom dancer and a ballet dancer could cohere to present a new experience of contemporary dance presented through a dance video. Through conversations, he also helped me refine my voice in academic writing and realize differences in cultural practice of dance, especially between Russian folk dance and Philippine folk dance.

  • I have been pleased to welcome David for three consecutive years as a guest instructor within my course in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto. David is remarkably committed to, and passionate about, his dance practice, scholarly research and academic teaching positions. He is continually searching for the most effective ways to facilitate learning in all situations. In a lecture setting, his understanding of dance history allows him to teach dance from a culturally relativistic perspective that is inclusive and accessible to all populations, ages, and cultures. In the studio, David’s dance science education helps him design anatomically and psychologically sound dance classes with the goal of realizing the dancers’ full potential in a safe and healthy manner.

  • During the past year of learning Latin dances with David as my instructor, I feel I have become a better dancer now, since the last time I started. He pushes me to dance to the best of my ability and has helped improve my technique by giving me a better understanding of movement. He challenges, encourages, inspires and motivates me to improve as a dancer. I'm glad to have the opportunity to learn from an instructor like David, and would recommend aspiring dancers of any level to work with him if they get the chance.

  • “You have to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscripts to store away, no paintings to show on the walls and maybe hang in museums, no poems to be printed and sold, nothing but that single fleeting moment when you feel alive” Merce Cunningham

David’s love for dance is very evident in the way he dances and teaches. He brings a passion and dedication that inspires me to improve myself. I have been learning ballroom and Latin dance styles with David since November 2018. Dance has allowed me to express my zest for life and gratitude and I feel alive and happier. When I dance I forget about everything else, David has pushed me to get out of my head and my comfort zone and he has helped me improve my self-confidence on the floor. He has a calm demeanour about him and he is patient and kind when teaching. He has a keen sense of identifying his students’ abilities, this allow each student to progress at their own pace. For new comers Dance techniques can be very complicated, but David takes the time to simplify the salient features of a particular dance and explains these techniques at the students’ level. At each lesson he encourages me to work on a particular aspect of the dance and provides essential feed back to help me grow and improve.

I would encourage anyone who has always wanted to dance to come and take a lesson with David. As a famous dancer said: “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great”. Dancing is a lot of fun and is known to improve our overall wellbeing – you should try it!!

  • It was a year ago when I decided to take dance classes. I looked through all the classes offered in various dance studios and decided to join a few different ones in different studios. However, after a few classes with David Outevski, I stopped attaining other dance studios and have been taking classes only with him since then. For me, learning to dance has been more challenging than anything else. However, learning dancing helped me to develop better body awareness, helped to stay focused, fix my posture and offered a great way to de-stress after a long day. I have been impressed with the quality of instruction. He helps you to learn the proper technique and performance skills in an encouraging environment. All his classes are amazing.

I highly recommend David’s dance classes he offers for adults and children.
