This lecture will look at several examples of choreographic material in order to understand some of its binding elements and aesthetic priorities. For example, we may look at the Philipino form Tinikling and unravel its traditional meaning, use, and relationship to music and festival. Alternatively, we may look at ballet as a form of cultural dance and examine its roots in European court culture and folk tales.
This workshop can be done in-person or online. It lasts 2 hours but can be longer by request to get a more in-depth overview of the topic.
