Dance Studies is the culmination of knowledge in the areas of Dance History, Dance Anthropology, Performance Studies, Race Studies, Gender Studies, Aesthetics, and Philosophy focused on the exploration of the place of dance in our society. Dance Studies critically examines questions such as what role does dance performance play in our understanding of nationhood? How do different cultures view the moving body? and what is the relationship of race, gender and dance?
Dr. Outevsky’s PhD research looks at the cultural identities of Soviet immigrants in Canada and their adaptations to the social structures, economic realities, and artistic sensibilities in North America.
