“You have to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscripts to store away, no paintings to show on the walls and maybe hang in museums, no poems to be printed and sold, nothing but that single fleeting moment when you feel alive” Merce Cunningham
David’s love for dance is very evident in the way he dances and teaches. He brings a passion and dedication that inspires me to improve myself. I have been learning ballroom and Latin dance styles with David since November 2018. Dance has allowed me to express my zest for life and gratitude and I feel alive and happier. When I dance I forget about everything else, David has pushed me to get out of my head and my comfort zone and he has helped me improve my self-confidence on the floor. He has a calm demeanour about him and he is patient and kind when teaching. He has a keen sense of identifying his students’ abilities, this allow each student to progress at their own pace. For new comers Dance techniques can be very complicated, but David takes the time to simplify the salient features of a particular dance and explains these techniques at the students’ level. At each lesson he encourages me to work on a particular aspect of the dance and provides essential feed back to help me grow and improve.
I would encourage anyone who has always wanted to dance to come and take a lesson with David. As a famous dancer said: “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great”. Dancing is a lot of fun and is known to improve our overall wellbeing – you should try it!!
