This lecture will examine the embodiment processes in the former USSR. We will look at how the political system in the country shaped the bodies and movement patterns of its citizens. By looking at examples of art censorship during Zhdanov’s time as a cultural minister, the glorification of folk art, and the acceptance of classicism we will attempt to deconstruct the complex machinery of art and movement during the Soviet era in order to better understand its implications for the current arts practices in Eastern Europe.
This workshop can be done in-person or online. It lasts 2 hours but can be longer by request to get a more in-depth overview of the topic.
