New Book – Soviet Diaspora in American Ballroom

After 5 years of research and 2 years of writing, my book is finally published! It is a socio-historical study of Soviet immigrant ballroom dancers in the USA and Canada. In this work I examine how they adapted their training methods, studio management, and daily behavior to suit the North American standards. It also looks at the reverse process whereby living in West has transformed the identities of these diasporic dancers to the more commercialized and service-based dance industry here.

By means of interviews, archival research, and participant observation I bring the reader to the underground competitions in the former USSR, the sweaty studios across north America and the glamourous tv sets of Dancing With The Stars!

Join me on this journey as you read it yourself: Soviet Diaspora in American Ballroom: From Odesa Basements to Dancing with the Stars
